New Trailer for Joe Dante's 'The Hole', Now Arriving Three Years Late

The Hole Trailer
Big Air Studios & Bold Films are finally ready to release The Hole, the new horror from Gremlins director Joe Dante, that has been on hold for three years. I'm a lil' grouchy because we first covered it way back in 2009. We even ran a trailer in May of 2010 for a release that year, but it never made it. Finally, after all this time, it's arriving late September. The Hole, originally filmed in 3D (back when it was "3-D"), stars Haley Bennett, Nathan Gamble and Chris Massoglia as children terrorized by some eerie, evil hole from hell they find in their basement. It's the kind of kids' horror Dante is known for, but doesn't look that amazing.

One of the early reviews from TIFF three years ago when it premiered as The Hole 3D gave it some positive praise and called it "a film that is sure to make 80's film lovers happy." This film has been waiting to be released for a very long time, just like Red Dawn, and it's finally getting that chance in 2012, but I'm just not sure it will be worth the wait. They kept out a lot of the cheesier humor, but the footage doesn't look too bad.

Here's the final 2012 theatrical trailer for Joe Dante's The Hole (sans 3D), originally from Yahoo:

The Hole centers on Susan (Teri Polo), a mother who moves with her teen sons to a rural house where they are forced to face their fears after discovering a bottomless hole in the basement. Anyone still curious?

The Hole is directed by one-of-a-kind filmmaker Joe Dante, of films like Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins, Explorers, Innerspace, The 'burbs, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and Small Soldiers. The script was written by Mark L. Smith, of Séance and Vacancy. The Hole was shot independently in Vancouver, originally in 3D, and first showed at the Venice, Toronto and AFI Film Festivals in late 2009. Big Air Studios will finally be releasing The Hole in limited theaters starting September 28th this year, a delay of three years after it first premiered in 2009 at those fests.
