Taking cues from some of the other comic book sequels out there, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 seems to have a couple of villains on the docket. We already know that Jamie Foxx is slated to play Electro, but now Heat Vision has word that Paul Giamatti is in talks to enter the mix as The Rhino.
Considering Giamatti isn't exactly the most fit of actors and he's
certainly not anywhere near as buff as the comic book villain usually
appears, this seems like strange, but wholly interesting casting for the
comic book sequel. This isn't Giamatti's first comic book film as he
led American Splendor, but it'll be his first superhero film. Read on!
For those who don't know, The Rhino has been around since the 60s, first appearing as a thug from Russia who wore a superhuman suit that made him uncannily strong, speedy and invulnerable. The name comes from the fact that his suit had a large, deadly horn on top. What's interesting is that in more recent versions of the comics, The Rhino has become a more sympathetic character who actually becomes an ally of Spider-Man, so maybe Giamatti will have a role similar to that of Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Giamatti joins newcomers Shailene Woodley (as Mary Jane Watson) and Dane DeHaan (as Harry Osborne) along with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprising their roles.
In addition, another lovely female star is slated to join the mix as Felicity Jones is currently in talks for an unknown role. Jones (Like Crazy) would be an interesting addition to the cast, especially if they decide to start setting her up to become someone like Black Cat. This Spider-Man universe is likely going to expand into a lot of new territory not covered in previous films, but I hope it just doesn't get crowded like the Spider-Man 3, and lose sight of telling this new origin story. Production is supposed to begin in February with an eye towards release in 2014. What do you think?

"And what if you don't live?" The first trailer for the action thriller Snitch with Dwayne Johnson didn't really offer anything new in the vein of action, but we're hoping that former stuntman Ric Woman Waugh
has some tricks up his sleeve that he's saving for the big screen. At
least that seems to be the cast with a second shorter new trailer that
doesn't offer much new footage or plot points from the film. That could
be good or bad news depending on what you're looking for, but for now
I'm turned off by terrible music and recycled, generic action beats, but
maybe Benjamin Bratt will be a good villain for Johnson to fight? Watch!
Here's the short new trailer for Ric Roman Waugh's Snitch from The Rock's YouTube (via Film Stage):
Ric Roman Waugh a stunt man on films like Last Action Hero, Days of Thunder and Total Recall and director of Felon, is at the helm of this action thriller starring Dwayne Johnson as a father who goes undercover for the DEA in order to free his son who was imprisoned after being set up in drug deal. Waugh also wrote the screenplay with Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger, Revolutionary Road) and rounded up supporting talent like Jon Bernthal, Benjamin Bratt, Susan Sarandon and Barry Pepper to fill out the rest of the cast. Snitch is one of five films starring Dwayne Johnson next year, and it hits February 22nd, 2013.
For the past couple days, a rumor has been swirling that Bradley Cooper was already in talks with producer J.J. Abrams to star in the film about Lance Armstrong that surfaced last week
after the famed cyclist sat down with Oprah Winfrey and admitted to
doping in an effort to help win Tour de France titles. However, last
night the Silver Linings Playbook star was at the SAG Awards and when Access Hollywood
asked him about those rumors, he responded with a surprised but quick,
"Oh my god, that's so nuts!" He also went on to say, " I didn’t even
know that J.J. has the rights, I had no idea."
However, this rumor all started when Entertainment Tonight talked to J.J. Abrams and the producer said, "[Cooper] sent me an email and we've been talking." So someone has to be lying, and it sounds like it might be Cooper. After all, the actor did publicly express interest in playing Armstrong in an interview with BBC News, so the talk of him taking the role couldn't have been all that shocking. Maybe Cooper was trying to keep things secret so he stays in Abrams' good graces. After all, the filmmaker did deny directing the new Star Wars only to be announced as the director of Episode VII, so anything can happen. Thoughts?

Inside The Mind. Outside The Law. Are you hypnotized yet? I'm liking all the UK-specific artwork that is being released for Danny Boyle's new art heist film Trance. It's unconventional, it's eye-catching (I could even say hypnotizing) and yet doesn't reveal too much or look too Hollywood cheesy. A few days back we featured the first trippy orange poster for Trance with James McAvoy hidden in the imagery, now we have a similar poster found via Yahoo UK but with Rosario Dawson
in the background (and a new tagline for her character). There's also a
nice new UK quad poster for the whole film to top things off. Check 'em
out below!
Here's the latest two posters for Trance. I'm sure we'll see a few more for the other characters in it as well.
Be sure to watch the first UK trailer for Danny Boyle's Trance right here, as we wait for US release details.
An art auctioneer who has become mixed up with a group of criminals partners with a hypnotherapist in order to recover a lost painting. "It takes the idea of a stolen painting and develops into something sleeker and more psychological, with twists and turns." Trance is directed by Oscar winning British filmmaker Danny Boyle, of the films Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours previously. The screenplay was co-written by Joe Ahearne & John Hodge. Trance will be released in UK cinemas on March 27th. Fox Searchlight is releasing in the US, but hasn't set our date yet. Stay tuned!

This year could end up being one an Academy Awards ceremony for the record books. Despite the fact that Ben Affleck isn't nominated for Best Director at the 85th Academy Awards while his film Argo was nominated for Best Picture, the director and historical drama took home honors at the 70th Golden Globes. Now it looks like the film might be making a big run for Best Picture as the 22nd Annual Producers Guild of America Awards have just awarded the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures to Argo. Awards were also handed out for documentary and animated films also.
Here's a list of all the film winners from the 22nd PGA Awards via The Wrap:
Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award:
Argo
Producers: Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Grant Heslov
PGA Producer of the Year Award in Animation:
Wreck-It Ralph
Producer: Clark Spencer
PGA Producer of the Year Award in Documentaries:
Searching for Sugar Man
Producer: Malik Bendjelloul, Simon Chinn
I'm glad to see Wreck-It Ralph and Searching for Sugar Man get some love, but the real shake-up here is Argo winning the top prize. In the entire history of the Academy Awards, there have only been three instances when a Best Picture winner didn't have its director nominated for an Oscar as well. The last time it happened was with Driving Miss Daisy in 1990 and it had been 70 years since such an occurrence.
However, PGA award has consistently been a reliable predictor of what will take home Best Picture at the Oscars and in 23 years, the PGA winner has also won Best Picture 16 times. The Oscars could always go their own way and not give Best Picture to Argo though. Either way, it sounds like the race for Best Picture is going to be very exciting and we'll be waiting to hear what wins on the 85th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 24th on ABC starting at 7PM (EST) / 4PM (PST). Will Argo win Best Picture?

The official awards for the 2013 Sundance Film Festival
were announced tonight at a ceremony in Park City. The Sundance awards
are always very interesting to follow each year, because the winners are
usually unexpected, but of course deserving of their awards. This year
the two biggest winners were Ryan Coogler's Fruitvale and Steve Hoover's doc Blood Brother,
both of which won both the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize in their
respective categories. These two films, and all of the winners below,

Congratulations to all of this year's winners. I just saw Fruitvale a few days ago and loved it, too. I'm very happy that it won because it's a film that needs to be seen by as many people as possible. This double win of both of the big awards reminds of when Precious won both in 2009 (later earning six Oscar nominations). It's not rare, but it usually means the film is something truly special when it takes home these two together. As always, I suggest everyone keep their eyes on all of these films and everything else good coming out of Sundance. You can find all of our coverage from Sundance 2013 here. That's all for now until the next year!

No, it's not a desperate new sitcom on CBS, but rather just the best way to summarize the new promo materials for the March fantasy adventure Oz: The Great and Powerful from director Sam Raimi. Recently we highlighted the mystery that Disney is playing up as to whether Mila Kunis or Rachel Weisz is becoming the Wicked Witch of the West (if you've figured it out, don't spoil it for everyone else), and now some character posters featuring the two potential villains have showed up along with James Franco and Michelle Williams. Plus, there's a childish new featurette with the witches and their monkey friend. Look!
Here's the four new posters for Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful (via AICN):
And here's the new featurette about the witches and the flying monkey (via ComingSoon):
When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well. Also features the three witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). Disney's fantastical adventure Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Dark Man, Spider-Man, Drag Me to Hell), imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. From a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. Disney will be sending us back to Oz on March 8th in a few months. Thoughts?
Good news for fans of IMAX, 3D and G.I. Joe: Retaliation has arrived. With the sequel poised to hit theaters in March, Paramount Pictures is really getting the word out there with a 4-minute 3D preview that will play in front of all IMAX 3D and regular theatrical 3D showings of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which hits theaters today.
So if you're bold enough to see the bloody, R-rated action fantasy,
you'll get some ninja action flying at your face. Plus, IMAX announced
the film will hit the big big screen for just one week starting March 29th (or March 28th around the world).
“Dwayne Johnson has resonated well with IMAX fans, and we believe his strong global appeal, coupled with the action spectacle of G.I. Joe: Retaliation in IMAX 3D is sure to excite moviegoers,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. Translation: Dwayne Johnson is a big star, tons of people will see him on any size screen, and we want more money along with Paramount Pictures. And supposedly there's not anymore Channing Tatum than was originally intended before the film was delayed for the 3D conversion, so Johnson is the hero here. Will you see the G.I. Joe: Retaliation preview?
“Dwayne Johnson has resonated well with IMAX fans, and we believe his strong global appeal, coupled with the action spectacle of G.I. Joe: Retaliation in IMAX 3D is sure to excite moviegoers,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. Get ready for some more high-flying martial arts action, because Deadline reports that The Weinstein Company are putting a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel into production in May of this year. Ronny Yu, who directed thirteen Chinese films before churning out American duds like Freddy vs. Jason and Bride of Chucky, is set to direct, while writer John Fusco (Hidalgo, The Forbidden Kingdom) will write the screenplay with Harvey Weinstein producing. None of the cast from the original has signed to return yet, but at least one major character should be back if they stick to the source material. More below!
Crouching Tiger was based on the fourth book in the Crane Iron Pentalogy, and this new film will be based on Silver Vase, Iron Knight, the fifth book in the series. Ang Lee is reportedly not going to be involved in any way, but the story here follows Michelle Yeoh's character Yu Shu Lien from the first movie, so chances are looking good that she'll return. But it sounds like we'll also see some new faces, too. Here's what Fusco told Deadline:

"This introduces a new generation of star-crossed lovers, and a new series of antagonists in a battle of good and evil...There is an alternate universe in the books, a martial forest that exists alongside the real world, full of wandering sword fighters, medicine men, defrocked priests, poets, sorcerers and Shaolin renegades. It’s so vast and rich, and I found characters from the second and third books in the series to create a most interesting stew while being as true to the source material as I could be.”Weinstein is obviously a savvy businessman, so he must realize he'll make a boatload of cash overseas with this sequel even if it doesn't perform well here in the States. Plus, Fusco seems confident that fight choreographer Woo Ping Yuen will return for Silver Vase, Iron Knight, and his inventive work on the first movie was a huge part of what made that film a pop culture touchstone. I think Yuen coming back is our only hope of this actually turning out well, so I'm hoping the 68-year-old legend is up for the task. Casting starts after Yu signs on the dotted line, and production starts in May with a $20 million budget. Stay tuned.
It sounds like Ron Howard is having a busy week. Not only is the filmmaker bringing Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book back to life and working with Bad Robot on remaking the Israeli film All I've Got, but now Vulture has word of yet another new project for the director. After working with Chris Hemsworth on the racing drama Rush,
it sounds like Howard might head to Warner Bros. to reteam with the
actor for the adaptation of In the Heart of the Sea, based on Nathaniel Philbrick's book of the same name. The story follows the real-life disaster of a ship being destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820, which inspired Moby Dick.
Hemsworth became attached to the project last summer, and since the script for the film is done with a star involved, this could very well be Howard's next project. However, Howard hasn't yet committed and talks are still ongoing. Production is expected to begin this fall, so likely we'll be hearing more soon. There's no telling how well Howard and Hemsworth do together until Rush comes to theaters this September, but if this reunion is a prospect, then it might mark a game changer for Hemsworth as a real dramatic star as opposed to an action man with a pretty face and decent comedic sensibilities. Stay tuned.

Just after the New Year, a rumor started circulating about the team line-up for Warner Bros. anticipated superhero ensemble Justice League.
In addition to superheroes, it also included mentions of Lois Lane and
Alfred Pennyworth. Now a more reliable rumor comes from Latino Review (who just broke news on potential cast members for Guardians of the Galaxy) saying that the Justice League will be composed of only Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash. If you're disappointed that a couple key heroes aren't on that list, there might be some hope for those missing names still. Read on!
Though the film is said to concentrate on those five core heroes, there's apparently a chance for Aquaman and Martian Manhunter to get small cameos, likely to set up for a second movie or future individual franchises. And there's also a much smaller possibility that Hawkman might show up at some point. Of course, we're not sure who all will play these heroes, whether Zack Snyder's Man of Steel kicks off this DC Comics universe on the big screen, or if it has some sort of tie to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. Hopefully we'll have answers to these questions soon as production looms nearer to meet the 2015 release.

Casting is underway for Marvel's cosmic superhero ensemble Guardians of the Galaxy from director James Gunn. We've heard more than a few names
for the shortlist trying to lock down Peter Quill (aka Starlord), and
now two more big names have come out of left field, but not for that
role. Latino Review (who has always been reliable with comic book scoops) has heard that Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler
are among the names being considered as Marvel has inquired about their
availability for this film. This would be the third comic book movie
for Carrey, but the first for Sandler. So what role would they have? Read on!
That remains unclear, but I wouldn't expect Sandler to suit up as a superhero. Carrey might be able to take a physical role, but the more likely option is that these two are being considered for voicing Rocket Raccoon or the other visual effects heavy team member Groot. Carrey's collection of funny voices is pretty much limitless so it would make a good fit. Sandler is a little less skilled in that arena, but still has some flare that could work for Rocket. Either way, this could be huge for both the actors. We'll see Carrey next in Kick-Ass 2 and Sandler is probably farting in a can somewhere. Oh, and just to add more names for Peter Quill, apparently Wes Bentley, Cam Gigandet and Chris Lowell are also testing.

Briefly: By now, everyone should be aware that Disney and Marvel are bringing Iron Man 3, the kick-off of Phase Two of Marvel's cinematic universe to theaters in the United States on May 3rd. However, the film will be hitting certain international theaters a week earlier on April 25th, and THR has word that the blockbuster sequel from director Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr. will also be getting an IMAX release all over the world, following in the footsteps of Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers. If you haven't seen the first spectacular trailer, watch it right here, and stay tuned for more Marvel updates soon.
The twisted timeline of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has been speculated about since the film was officially announced, but we're one step closer to being able to place the events of this movie on a timeline. MTV spoke with director Robert Rodriguez and confirmed that Bruce Willis will be returning to his role as Hartigan in the sequel. But that isn't the only film with a weird timeline on the horizon. Captain America: The Winter Soldier reportedly takes place in modern day, but now HeyUGuys adds to the confusion by reporting that Toby Jones will reprise his role as Arnim Zola in the Marvel movie. Read on!
Let's talk about Sin City: A Dame to Kill For first. With official confirmation that Willis will be back, we know that his segments in this movie will take place before the events of the first Sin City because *spoiler alert* Hartigan dies at the end of the first film. (Mickey Rourke is also coming back as Marv, and he died in the first one too.) Josh Brolin has taken over for Clive Owen as Dwight, but that character has a different face in this earlier part than in the first movie, so A Dame to Kill For is looking more like a full prequel than a sequel. Willis was one of the best parts of the original, so I'm psyched he's back.
As for Captain America: A Winter Soldier, we're all essentially still going in blind when it comes to the timeline for this one. Early word pegged the movie as taking place after The Avengers, and we know that Peggy Carter won't be back in action again (it'll be her niece Sharon this time out), but with Jones reprising his Nazi role, will we be seeing flashbacks or something more interesting? Zola is a biochemical genius, so could he have engineered some way to keep himself vital through the years? He was already middle aged in the first movie, so I don't think he'd be alive in modern day, so the only other major option would be seeing him in flashback form. Hopefully directors Joe and Anthony Russo can make this work because I think it'd be a little weird to include flashbacks without hitting Cap's romantic past in the process.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For comes to theaters in 3D on October 4th, 2013, while we'll see the star-spangled shield again in Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4th, 2014. Sound good?

Renaissance man James Franco is back at Sundance this year, and he's making things a little sexy. This time the Spider-Man and Pineapple Express star is producing a documentary from director Christina Voros called Kink,
which takes a closer, practical look at the fetish website Kink.com and
all their adult operations. Kink.com is the largest producer of BDSM. Now the first red band
trailer for the documentary has arrived, and while the content is
obviously for adults, there's not any nudity or depiction of explicit
sex acts. There's some raunchy talk and off-camera action and sounds,
but this looks pretty intriguing. Watch!
Here's the first red band trailer for Christina Voros' Kink via SlashFilm:
Kink.com is the Internet’s largest producer of BDSM content and their directors and models strive for authenticity. In an enterprise often known for exploitative practices, Kink.com upholds an ironclad set of values to foster an environment that is safe, sane, and consensual. They aim to demystify the BDSM lifestyle, and to serve as an example and an educational resource for the BDSM community. Christina Voros directs this documentary Kink which turns the lens on a seemingly misunderstood subculture. James Franco produces the film premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival this month but has no release date yet.
Back in December, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures, the production companies founded by siblings David Ellison and Megan Ellison respectively, picked up the rights to the Terminator franchise. The sci-fi action series which was launched into fame by James Cameron has been in limbo for awhile, and doesn't have a studio home yet, but the Ellisons are moving quick to get Terminator 5 off the ground. Deadline reports Avatar and Shutter Island writer Laeta Kalogridis and Drive Angry writer and director Patrick Lussier will both script the sequel based on an idea from Skydance. That's a strange combination.
Lussier has mostly been based in horror as a writer and director, but he's edited other films like D3: The Might Ducks and most recently Apollo 18. Maybe there's something about his approach that they like, and meshing it with a Cameron collaborator like Kalogridis could prove to be lucrative. We're still not sure who will direct since Justin Lin seems to be out of the picture, but there's a good chance Arnold Schwarzenegger will return in some capacity. Hopefully it turns out better than Terminator Salvation. With the producers of Zero Dark Thirty and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol on board, that shouldn't be a problem.
After saving his family twice in Taken and the less than stellar sequel, Liam Neeson will take his brand of action to the sky in Non-Stop as an air marshal stopping a dangerous threat to his passenger plane. Jaume Collett-Sera is directing that film (who also directed Neeson in Unknown), and now he's reuniting with the Irish bad ass for Run All Night, another action thriller written by Brad Inglesby (who wrote forthcoming films like Out of the Furnace and the remake of The Raid). This time Neeson will play a mob hitman who must take on his former boss in order to protect his son and family, all in one single night.
Neeson ends up on the run from the mob with his estranged son, and there's probably a lot of running and car chases. The unlikely action star can only do this for so long as he's getting up there in the years, but audiences keep turning out for these kinds of films with im in the lead. Hopefully it offers a little something different than the generic shoot 'em up action we've come to expect after Taken (that first film was fun and enjoyable, but now its old schtick). Neeson and Collett-Sera are shooting Non-Stop right now, and while Warner Bros. has locked Neeson to star, we're not sure if this will be his next film or not. Stay tuned.
James Bond title songs are iconic. Normally we don't feature songs crafted just for feature films unless there's some sort of great music video to go along with them, but in the case of a new theme song for Agent 007's return to the big screen in Skyfall, we'll make an exception. Earlier today the full version was played by a French radio station a bit early, but we've waited until now for the official release of the title track from the anticipated 23rd installment in the iconic franchise. It's an absolutely gorgeous theme song and is pure, classic James Bond. This kicks off Global James Bond Day (at least across the pond), so have a nice martini (shaken, not stirred) and stay tuned for more James Bond action tomorrow! Hear the song below!

"Are we fitted to the times we're born into?" During the first 2012 presidential debate, Disney/DreamWorks unveiled a new extended TV preview for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. The spot runs a full 2-minutes and is titled "Unite". Daniel Day-Lewis plays our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, in this epic story that tells of his last four months. The first full trailer debuted last month and marketing is now ramping up, including this TV spot showing up right in the thick of election season. David Strathairn and Tommy Lee Jones also appear, along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt who wasn't seen in the trailer much. This was the footage I was waiting to see, it looks epic and emotional and monumental in every sense of the name Lincoln. Enjoy!
Here's the full debate TV preview for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, originally from YouTube:
Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, which finished shooting last year, stars Daniel Day-Lewis (of My Left Foot, Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood) as our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, and focuses on the last four months of his life, guiding the North to victory during the Civil War. The cast includes Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace, John Hawkes, Walton Goggins, Hal Holbrook, Tim Blake Nelson and David Oyelowo. The film has a screenplay by Oscar nominee Tony Kushner (Angels in America, Munich), based on many books about Lincoln's life. Disney, releasing the DreamWorks production, will debut Lincoln in limited theaters starting on November 9th, expanding wide on the 16th.
