Freeman will voice a character called Vitruvius (named after the Roman writer, no doubt), but Banks' role is still a mystery. Scoring Freeman's voice is a coup for any animated project, and Banks has such an infectious laugh and gift for comedy that she'll be a great fit here regardless of her role. The story follows Pratt's character Emmett, a normal LEGO mini-figure who is mistaken for the mythical "Master Builder" and whisked away on a quest to save the entire LEGO world before an evil tyrant glues the universe together. Lord and Miller, who worked in animation before with the wonderful Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, have spoken before about how the film will look as if "Michael Bay kidnapped Henry Selick to make a movie for him," so I can't wait to see how this one looks on the big screen.
With LEGO developing another one of their specific product lines into a separate film, it'll be interesting to see how the family-friendly company's plans unfold in regards to their leap to the big screen with these two projects. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait all the way until February 28th, 2014 for Lord & Miller's The Piece of Resistance to hit theaters. Expect many more casting announcements until then.
