Michael Fassbender Joins Natalie Portman's Western 'Jane Got a Gun'

Jane Got a Gun
Back in May, we wrote about former Black List project Jane Got A Gun, a western from writer Brian Duffield set to star and be produced by Natalie Portman. The film, to be directed by We Need to Talk About Kevin helmer Lynne Ramsay, follows a young woman whose outlaw husband stumbles home pumped full of bullets, so she must reach out to a former lover to help protect her homestead from the criminals who are on the way to finish off the husband. Vulture's spies tell them that Michael Fassbender is in talks to take the role of the Portman's gunslinging former lover, which sounds pretty damn awesome. Read on!

The closest thing to a western that Fassbender has done was the disappointing Jonah Hex, and Portman hasn't dipped her acting toe into those waters yet either, so this is an exciting prospect for fans of a genre that doesn't get enough love these days. Duffield's script ended up on the Black List in 2011, and it sounds like a hell of a story in which both Portman and Fassbender - who was born to play a steely cowboy - can certainly shine. I love that both of these actors have no problem bouncing from huge superhero franchises to smaller indie productions like this, and that versatility is why Portman has had such huge success in her long career and why Fassbender has shot to the A-list faster than any other actor in recent memory. Word is that filming is supposed to start early in 2013, so we'll keep you posted.
