Though this film is technically a step back into romantic comedy territory for Efron, it sounds a lot more promising than some of his other efforts in that genre. The script, also written by Gormican, was on the 2010 Black List of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, so that's good news. The story seems a bit familiar, surrounding three friends in Manhattan who make a pact to stay single just as each of them is falling in love, but I'm guessing it wouldn't have made the Black List if it wasn't a solid script. Efron would play a guy who is averse to commitment, but may be falling for a girl he brought home one night.
Efron also has a comedy called Townies coming sometime down the road, where he plays a raucous frat boy that makes Seth Rogen's family life a living hell. Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller is helming that one, and I'm hoping that's a big enough hit to lead the charge in continuing the change in public perception of Efron from the High School Musical star he started out as years ago. Thoughts?
