In case you didn't know,
Steven Spielberg's sci-fi classic
E.T. The Extra Terrestrial is finally coming to
Blu-Ray on October 9th, just in time for the film's 30th anniversary. Having the film in high definition is a nice treat, but the best way to celebrate will be with a return to theaters for one night only on
October 3rd. Fathom Events has just announced a collaboration with Turner Classic Movies and Universal Pictures (as part of the 100th anniversary celebration) to put a digitally remastered version of the film back in theaters, and it will be the original cut that hit the big screen in 1982. No walkie talkies instead of guns!
The film, playing at
2pm and 7pm local time at 560 theaters (
check here for ticketing information) will have a special introduction by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz who talks about the making of the film, including how Spielberg came up with the idea. In addition,
Drew Barrymore has also shot a special segment reflecting on the film 30 years later. Though I wish this was an actually film print hitting theaters, I guess this is the next best thing, so I'll probably give it a whirl.
