Angelina Jolie made headlines with her directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey late last year, and actresses like Jodie Foster and Drew Barrymore have also stepped from in front of the lens to behind it to give directing a try. Renée Zellweger is the newest among their ranks, as THR reports that the Bridget Jones's Diary actress will make her directorial debut on a comedy called 4 1/2 Minutes, in which she'll star alongside the underrated Johnny Knoxville. The movie, written by Warrior scribe Anthony Tambakis, is set in the world of NYC stand-up comedy and based on a unique and true story. Read on!

Knoxville will play the lead role of Jimmy Bennett, a comedian whose life is coming apart and resorts to a job looking after a genius son of a single mom (Zellweger). Someone call Jonathan Lipnicki for a Jerry Maguire reunion! Knoxville's character is based on the real-life comedy and exploits of Dov Davidoff, who worked on the story with Tambakis before the script was written. This doesn't exactly strike me as material that's a perfect fit for Zellweger's first feature, but I love to be proven wrong on stuff like this, so we'll see how she handles herself behind the camera. She's worked with some pretty great directors like Cameron Crowe, Ron Howard, Anthony Minghella, and George Clooney, so hopefully she's made some good observations during her acting career and can put them to good use for 4 1/2 Minutes.
