Watch the new trailer for Darrell Roodt's Winnie, originally from Yahoo Canada (via CB):
Focus ranges from her image as a mother, wife and steadfast supporter of her husband, to campaigning for his release from jail and fight against apartheid. The story in it focuses not so much on the sometimes negative press she received, but on the powerful love story that kept Winnie and Nelson together for years.
Winnie is directed by veteran South African filmmaker Darrell Roodt, whose past work includes a lot of low budget action flicks. The screenplay was co-written by Roodt as well as Andre Pieterse and Paul L. Johnson. It's based on the biography written by Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob. This premiered at TIFF 2011, and is being released in Canada by D Films. But it still doesn't have a US distributor, or at least no release date yet.
