Official Trailer for 'Winnie' with Jennifer Hudson & Terrence Howard

Winnie official trailer
"I like you Winnie, you are not afraid." "Of what?" "Of me." A new, but official, Canadian trailer has arrived for Darrell Roodt's Winnie, his powerful biopic telling the story of Winnie Mandela, played by Jennifer Hudson, the wife of Nelson Mandela, played by Terrence Howard, in South Africa. Some may remember a very long promo trailer that hit in 2010 after this was filmed, but this is an official trailer. It shows a lot of the story between these two, and it looks tremendous, I must say. Now I understand why this is an awards-caliber performance by Hudson, you can see it. It's an excellent trailer, I just wish I could see the film, too.

Focus ranges from her image as a mother, wife and steadfast supporter of her husband, to campaigning for his release from jail and fight against apartheid. The story in it focuses not so much on the sometimes negative press she received, but on the powerful love story that kept Winnie and Nelson together for years.

Winnie is directed by veteran South African filmmaker Darrell Roodt, whose past work includes a lot of low budget action flicks. The screenplay was co-written by Roodt as well as Andre Pieterse and Paul L. Johnson. It's based on the biography written by Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob. This premiered at TIFF 2011, and is being released in Canada by D Films. But it still doesn't have a US distributor, or at least no release date yet.
