Though the plot sounds pretty bland to me, it's worth noting that acclaimed director William Friedkin is circling the project to direct. Friedkin made a name for himself in the '70s with the one-two punch of The French Connection and The Exorcist, and has since directed movies like To Live and Die in L.A., the creepy Michael Shannon thriller Bug, and most recently Killer Joe with Matthew McConaughey. His involvement gives me a bit of hope for what otherwise sounds like a standard revenge thriller, and perhaps he can coax a bit of the crazy out of Cage and we'll end up with another eclectic performance from the Con Air star.
Emmet/Furla Films is backing I Am Wrath, and they previously worked with Cage on Frozen Ground, the John Cusack/Vanessa Hudgens serial killer film that hits theaters later this year. Production starts in February, and Lionsgate is handling the distribution stateside. Interested?
