Penn Badgley Carries a Tune in 'Greetings from Tim Buckley' Trailer

 Greetings from Tim Buckley trailer
It's been over a year since we heard about Greetings from Tim Buckley, a film from Daniel Algrant (director of People I Know and some "Sex and the City"), that would follow the true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s breakthrough 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert at St. Ann’s Church. However, the film played at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival last week, and a trailer to build buzz for the film has ended up online. Penn Badgley sings his heart out as the younger Buckley, and Imogen Poots looks to put in a solid performance, but the trailer feels a little cliche and familiar. Watch?

Here's the first trailer for Daniel Algrant's Greetings from Tim Buckley via The Film Stage:

Greetings from Tim Buckley tells the true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s (Penn Badgley) 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church. Through a romance with a young woman (Imogen Poots) working at the concert, the younger Buckley comes to understand the father who abandoned him. The musician's cathartic performance of his father’s most famous songs results in a stunning performance which launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians of his time. Daniel Algrant (People I Know) directed the film which played at TIFF 2012 but doesn't have a US release date yet. Well?
