'Oldboy' Director to Helm Black Listed True Crime Drama 'Corsica 72'

Corsica 72 movie
While director Spike Lee is busy working on a remake of Oldboy, the director of the original South Korean film, Park Chan-wook, is looking at his next project. Right now audiences are still waiting to see his film Stoker from Fox Searchlight, a film centering on a teenage girl, played by Mia Wasikowska, who must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle, played by Matthew Goode, following the death of her father. Now Variety has word Chan-wook has been set to direct Corsica 72, a new true story crime drama from Skyfall writing duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade which ended up on the Black List. More below!
The film is yet another project from 1984 Private Defense Contractors (behind the recently announced all-female version of The Expendables and adaptation of Bloodstrike) who will also produce with Ruby Films. The period crime drama is based on a true story following two best friends who live on the small island of Corsica where they choose different paths in life. One becomes an honest hard-working man while the other heads into a life of crime as a gangster, but they both end up fighting over a woman who comes between them. Love triangle and crime!

However, it's not clear how soon Chan-wook might get to this project as he was also recently set to direct another Black Listed screenplay called The Brigands of Rattleborge for Red Granite Pictures and Mythology Entertainment. That film follows a group of ruthless thieves who use the cover of a torrential rainstorm to plunder a frontier town named Rattleborge. During the chaotic aftermath, the bereaved sheriff must team up with a vengeful doctor to seek retribution. Sounds like another great project for the Oldboy director, and it's also said to be ultraviolent, so that should please fans of his original film. Stay tuned for more.
