Robert Downey Jr. Delays Production of 'Iron Man 3' Due to Injury

Iron Man 3

Don't freak out, people - Iron Man 3 is still coming to theaters on May 3rd, 2013. But according to Yahoo, it looks like franchise star Robert Downey Jr. has sustained a small injury on the set in North Carolina and the production is being delayed a bit to give him time to recover. Here's the official statement from Marvel: "Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates." Again, no need to worry since it doesn't sound like the injury is too serious. More below!

It's actually pretty cool that Downey was working on his own stunt, so hopefully this brief setback doesn't discourage him from continuing to do his own stunt work in the future (when it's within reason, of course). He spends so much time inside the suit covered up, it's nice to actually see his face occasionally during some more high-octane sequences, and if the new footage that we saw at Comic-Con this year is any indication, it looks like Iron Man's new suit will come together in pieces rather than in just one entity, giving Downey plenty of opportunity to get some good face time. Director Shane Black has been filming Iron Man 3 up in North Carolina for the last few months. It sounds like they will continue again soon. Get well, good sir.
