The story follows a money-hungry woman in a small town who has given up on her big city dreams. Therefore she decides to win over an old high school crush by using a hapless man as a pawn in a get-rich-quick scheme. But of course, it goes terribly wrong. The project is described as being similar to Gus Van Sant's 1995 film To Die For starring Nicole Kidman, a bit of a dark comedy that really launched the Aussie actress' career. It sounds like this is an important role for Mulligan who pursued the part herself. The British talent is easily one of my favorite imports, and I look forward to every single project she undertakes. Plus, with a filmmaker like Marsh making his way from docs to narrative features, this is very enticing.
