'Taken' Director Pierre Morel Taking a Shot at 'Hitman's Bodyguard'

Taken
Director Pierre Morel may not be a household name, but audiences certainly know his breakout film Taken. Though the filmmaker has handed off the Liam Neeson led franchise to Olivier Megaton for Taken 2 (watch the most recent trailer right here), that doesn't mean he's stepping away from action. Morel was slated to helm another action thriller in the form of Bastille Day and now Heat Vision reports he's in talks to direct The Hitman's Bodyguard, an action movie that is being set up through the Paramount Pictures based Skydance Production, one of the companies behind Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol last year.

As of now it's not clear whether Skydance will take this film through Paramount, but the story follows a protection agent who is forced to escort to the Hague a hitman awaiting his chance to testify against a war criminal and ex-head of state of an Eastern European country. It has two lead roles much like Morel's lesser celebrated action flick From Paris with Love starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. As for Bastille Day, apparently Morel has moved on from that project, and won't be directing anymore (which is fine by me as it sounded to similar to From Paris with Love anyway). Morel is a solid action director, but he'll be living in the shadow of Taken for awhile until he outdoes himself. I hope he has it in him.
