Well, that's a bit upsetting. After being rumored to join the cast of Wes Anderson's next film The Grand Budapest Hotel in July, actor Johnny Depp was confirmed for the film a week later. Recently added cast member Jude Law also seemed to confirm Depp's involvement saying, "I have heard Johnny Depp is indeed playing a key role in it." However, it sounds like Law might have heard the same news the rest of us did as Huffington Post recently spoke to Wes Anderson and asked him about the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise star taking the lead in this film and the director's response was simply, "It's not Johnny Depp."

As for where the rumor came from, Anderson blames the internet:

    "You know, the Internet has a way of announcing things on its own. You will find that even though I'm very aware of the cast that has been announced on its own devices, you'll never find me saying who's in the movie. Or, as far as I know, anybody else. I really don't know where it all comes from. In fact, Johnny is somebody who I would love to work with at some point, but he's not going to be in this movie. But I actually have not put the cast out -- I have not announced the cast. We have quite a great cast."
Anderson isn't one to lie straight to our faces, even though he does play coy about his projects, so I think that means Depp isn't going to have a role in the film. No matter how disappointing that might be, we can take solace in that at least one cast member confirmed has definitely been locked down. When asked if Bill Murray was indeed taking a role, the director said, "That's true. That's true. Bill is in it. Bill is in it." I guess we'll have to wait for some sort of press release to hear if Angela Lansbury and Jude Law are in the film and who else will be playing in Anderson's sandbox this time around.
