Melissa Leo is Ready to Take 'Prisoners' Along with Hugh Jackman

Prisoners movie
If all goes according to plan, Melissa Leo is going to have a hell of a year in 2013. She'll appear with Tom Cruise in Oblivion, Shia LaBeouf in The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, Robin Williams twice in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn and as Mamie Eisenhower in Lee Daniels' The Butler, plus she'll star alongside Sam Rockwell and William H. Macy in a killer revenge drama called A Single Shot. Now we can add one more movie to her busy schedule, because Variety says she's joining Hugh Jackman in a kidnapping film called Prisoners for director Denis Villeneuve, who is best known for 2010's Incendies.

Prisoners follows a small town carpenter (Jackman) who takes the law into his own hands when his daughter and her friend are kidnapped and the police can't find them. He hunts down the person he thinks is responsible and holds him hostage, slowly wondering if he has the wrong guy and coming in contact with the city police detective assigned to the case. Leo's role isn't revealed, but it's a good bet she's taking on the part of the detective, which sounds like a solid fit to me. I'm really glad to see her attached to pulpy movies like this instead of letting her Oscar get to her head and falling into the trap of only doing prestige pictures, and with solid leads like this and some good direction, Prisoners could be a lot of fun to watch.
