After yesterday's news that Cloverfield director Matt Reeves would no longer be at the helm of The Twilight Zone movie, and now we may already know what is keeping him from following through on that film. Deadline has word that Reeves is at the top of a shortlist for directors to replace the recently departed Rupert Wyatt as the director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to last year's surprising hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes. However, he's not the only name in the running. Bigger and less likely names include Guillermo del Toro (probably too busy with Pacific Rim) and Looper director Rian Johnson.

In addition, The Disappearance of Alice Creed director J. Blakeson, 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Take Shelter director Jeff Nichols and The Impossible director Juan Antonio Bayona are also on the list to replace Wyatt. A decision will have to be made soon as the big challenge for Wyatt (and the reason for his departure) was having enough time to finish a quality film in order to meet a May 23rd, 2014 release date. The script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver is already done, and a director just needs to be picked. Reeves is my favorite pick on the list, but I still wish Wyatt was sticking around.
