Don't Expect 'The Girl Who Played with Fire' to Hit Theaters in 2013

The Girl Who Played with Fire
While a sequel featuring The Girl on Fire will hit theaters next November in the form of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the adaptation of The Girl Who Played with Fire is another story. Though it had been discussed that the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo would hit theaters late in 2013, EW now has word that this is not the case as Steve Zaillian is still touching up the script, and nothing will move forward until that screenplay is locked down. In addition, while Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are supposed to return, director David Fincher is still not officially attached to helm the sequel, though he's the first choice.

The first film wasn't exactly a hit, but in a recent sequel round-up, studio executive Doug Belgrad said it was enough for them to move forward with the sequel. For those who don't know, the next book follows Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation. On the eve of its publication, the two reporters responsible for the article are murdered, and the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to his friend, the troubled genius hacker Lisbeth Salander (Mara). Blomkvist, convinced of Salander’s innocence, plunges into an investigation. Meanwhile, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous game of cat and mouse, which forces her to face her dark past. Sounds just as intense as the first film, so hopefully it'll get off the ground sooner than later for a release in 2014.
