Adam McKay Says 'The Boys' is Back in Development at Paramount

The Boys

Though Adam McKay was officially attached to an adaptation of the comic book The Boys back in 2010, apparently his success at Columbia Pictures wasn't enough to get the project off the ground and it fell apart. However, fans who want to see an adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic have hope again as McKay recently answered a fan's question on Twitter (via ComicBookMovie) and said, "Actually Paramount picked it up and we're still developing." At least that means there's some interest in the project again, but due to the comic's violent nature, there's a chance that Paramount might not see any value in the property either. Read on!

Then again, if fan outcry was enough to get Paramount to reconsider Anchorman: The Legend Continues, maybe the same can happen with this McKay project too. The Boys, created by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson, follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as "the boys", whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them. It was originally being planned as a "$100 million, rated-R, anti-superhero movie", but it has likely undergone revisions since, at least with regards to budget. McKay was once looking at Russell Crowe for a key role. We'll have to see if that's still the direction they're headed, but hopefully this gets off the ground soon.
